Debbie Marroquin Stringfellow was walking in Paris near Notre Dame Cathedral when she noticed a young woman selling flowers made out of fabric.
"It was just a handmade little product that I fell in love with," says Stringfellow, 58, a retired schoolteacher.
She brought the idea home with her. In the beginning, "it was trial and error," but in March she launched her Showers of Flowers line of embellished fabric flower accessories. Stringfellow's website for her business, Atico SA, lists a growing number of retailers for the pieces equipped with both a pin and a snap.
"The concept was versatility," she says. "It can fit on a headband. You can have it on your purse. You can snap it on flip flops. You can put it on western boots with a band."
Stringfellow's line now includes keepsake bridal bouquets. Among the items for sale at the Holiday Olé Market, Stringfellow will have her "original" ($26). She will also be selling her "SOF bobby" ($8) for hair and flowered rings ($10).
